CIJ printing systems are generally more expensive than either thermal inkjet or Piezo DOD systems because of the technology required for ink recovery.
Welljets continuous inkjet printer (CIJ) is a type of inkjet printer that is used to print high-speed, high-resolution text, codes, and images on a wide range of surfaces. In a CIJ printer, a continuous stream of ink droplets is generated by an inkjet printhead and directed towards the surface to be printed.
The ink droplets are created by forcing a stream of ink through a small nozzle that is typically around 50 microns in diameter. The droplets are then electrically charged and deflected by an electrostatic field, allowing them to be directed onto the surface to be printed. The unused ink is then recycled and returned to the ink reservoir for reuse.
