Thermal transfer overprinting (TTO) is the ideal solution for transferring variable data with very high resolution onto flexible packaging material such as films (polypropylene, polyethylene etc.), flexible aluminium, labels, papers, tyvek (medical industry) and gloss cards. Unlike other inkjet technologies, TT overprinters are in direct contact with the substrate, allowing better quality text, graphics and barcodes. This very clean printing process also ensures that the appearance/design of the packaging to be printed remains unchanged. Direct thermal transfer printing can be used to print simple date codes and batch codes, logos, product descriptions, ingredients lists, nutritional panels and fully compliant barcodes in superior quality.
Thermal Transfer Overprinting Working Principle
Thermal transfer overprinting is a printing process requires a thermal transfer printhead(TPH) and ribbon to contact the packaging material. And there are two working methods of thermal transfer printing: intermittent and continuous
Step 1. The tiny heating point of TPH enables printing to reach a printing resolution of 300 dpi (12 dots/mm).
Step 2. The ink on the ribbon is melted by instant heating and then transferred to the packaging material.
Step 3. Printing can be formed on the packaging material through the relative movement of the TPH and the ribbon and the packaging material.
Step 4. Intelligent control enables the heating point to print various contents on the packaging materials.
